1. Service Delivery (counseling / testing, psychosocial support, palliative care, Malaria, tuberculosis and STI management)
Sexual and reproductive health and rights remain the most debated issue which explains why it has not been completely integrated as a development issue in Nigeria. Comprehensive sexuality education, care and support for persons living with HIV or affected by AIDS, diversities and differences, sexualities, bodily autonomy, bodily care, palliative care and other range of interventions are at the core of AHRDI’s work.
2. Research and Documentation
Under Research and documentation, AHRDI conducts desk reviews, action research to determine the best interventions that adequately suit the need of its clients. It documents human rights violations, abuse and violence and use the result of its findings to plan programs. Through documentaries and media engagements, the organization shares with partners the human rights situation in Nigeria while sharing best practices also. The organization has contributed to the documenting of human rights practices including research on violations and how it can be combated.
3. Human Rights Education
Under AHRDI’s human rights education project it conducts Paralegal trainings, Gender trainings, Self-esteem sessions, Skills acquisition trainings, human rights training on human rights mechanisms and protection, enhance skills to challenge obnoxious and discriminatory laws, simplification and interpretation of laws and policies, skills in safety and security education amongst others.
4. Shelter Management
Due to constant abuse faced by sexual minorities in Nigeria, AHRDI currently supports shelter initiatives and safe space for members who have come under attack due to their real or perceived sexual orientation. The organization provides linkages to existing shelter to settle in its members who might be facing ejection from home or communities. The organization also provides shelter management training for nascent organization to ensure that shelter occupants are treated with dignity and respect and have access to skills that enhance their life during and after leaving the shelter.
5. Networking
Attendance at strategic meetings within and outside the continent-through this activity, AHRDI identify and recommend staff and partners to programs that enhance knowledge and enable its staff, volunteers gain skills to enhance its work. This creates unique opportunities for interaction and knowledge building between AHRDI and its project beneficiaries.
